Ahmed Freenote (Ahmed El Antably)(Museum/Interpretive Center Design)

Ahmed El Antably is a PhD student in Architecture. His research interest is in virtual reconstruction of heritage. He is especially interested in the perception of place, place and memory, heritage, virtuality, representation and meaning.

 

August Drevnerussky (Lizzy Ha) (Museum/Interpretive Center Design, User-Testing/Communication)

Media Production Manager for Open Knowledge and the Public Interest (OKAPI), Lizzy Ha received her B.A in Anthropology at UC Berkeley. As an undergraduate, she spent two summers at Catalhoyuk. She is interested in making university research accessible, interesting, and reusable to the public.

 

 

Conrad Cao (Daniel Wei) (Museum/Interpretive Center Design, Terraforming the Island, Audio, Videowalks, Interactivity)

Daniel Wei is an undergraduate Junior majoring in EECS. He has taken a couple of Anthropology classes enjoys working on this project because of its blend of both subjects. This is his third semester working on recreating Catalhoyuk in Second Life. This semester, he plans to continue to script a portable video player, re-terrain the landscape of the site, and look into ways to update the current visitor center building.

 

Laurie Cuttita (Laurie Roderick) ( Events, User-Testing/Communication)

Laurie Roderick is an undergraduate 2nd Year who will be majoring in Anthropology. This is her first semester working on this project, but she is very excited about the work being done in Second Life.

 

Marc E. Moglen (SL: Manohar Merlin) (Audio, Video, Videowalks, Interactivity)

Ruth Galileo (Ruth Tringham) (Terraforming the Island, Events, Audio, Video, Videowalks, Interactivity)

Ruth, named Galileo for one of her heroes, is an archaeologist who has excavated at Çatalhöyük since 1997. She is currently involved with a multimedia project Remediated Places that is exploring ways to make visiting cultural heritage sites, such as the 9000-year old settlement of Çatalhöyük and its current investigation an engaging experience - either in physical or virtual life. She sees the Okapi project in Second Life as an exciting way to mirror the interpretive walks in a virtual environment, and an innovative platform for educational experiments about archaeology and events that bring together archaeologists and the public.

 

Scott McGinnis (Scott Calhoun) (Events, Video, Videowalks, User-Testing/Communication)

Scott Calhoun is a Senior in Anthropology focusing in Archaeology. Scott has been on four excavations and is interested in how film (Documentaries, scientific documentation, etc.) can expand public appreciation of Archaeology. In Second Life Scott is interested in exploring how users might interact with the archaeological aspects of the virtual Catalhoyuk. One way to do this might be to embed around OKAPI island video footage and photographs from the digs.

 

Zenobia Bamaisin (Casondra Sobieralski) (Museum/Interpretive Center Design, Events - FilmFest, Video, User-Testing/Communication)

Casondra is a digital media artist with an interest in nonlinear narrative and the spatiality of storytelling. Her motivating drive in life is excavating buried/forgotten women's history and pre-history. Her ultimate goal is to create immersive interactive "time machines" for educational purposes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Zed Marseille (Noah Wittman) (Terraforming the Island, Interactivity)

Program Manager for Open Knowledge and the Public Interest, Zed Marseille (Noah Wittman) is an educational media producer with ten years of experience developing multimedia websites, exhibits and curricula. Noah is exploring the potential for constructing social learning environments in Second Life.

 

Crimson Reyes (Lily Wei)

 Lily is currently a 4th year undergraduate majoring in the Group Studies in Mass Communications. She is interested in the use of promotion and advertising in Second Life, and hopes to further generate public interest in Okapi Island.
